Although the Alps are best for climbing in the summer, I have to say that they are best for viewing when the peaks have a nice cap of snow on top. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17139\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17139\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/visitmatsumoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/37882940316_4bee620416_k-590x291.jpg?resize=590%2C291&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"The lower mountains up front are still snow free\" width=\"590\" height=\"291\" class=\"size-large wp-image-17139\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17139\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The lower mountains up front are still snow free<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The two photos are from the Satoyamabe area on the east side of Matsumoto, but you can also get a decent view of the mountains right from Matsumoto Castle, or there&#8217;s a nice panoramic rooftop viewing point at the Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.jp\/maps\/place\/Matsumoto+Performing+Arts+Centre\/@36.2321818,137.9728949,17z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x601d0eecc37f8c55:0xbbbda22d53976b3d!8m2!3d36.2309624!4d137.9745819?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">map<\/a> &#8211; just take the elevator near the main entrance to the top floor.
